You should be proficient with loading, unloading, and clearing your firearm.
Action-pistol shooting incorporates dynamic movement while engaging static and moving targets at varying distances. As a general guideline, you should have shot at least 1000 rounds of ammunition through your firearm.
THE BASIC RULES OF FIREARMS SAFETY:
Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
Do not point the firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to fire.
Be aware of your target and what is beyond it.
prerequisites to participate
SAFETY IS THE CORNERSTONE OF WHAT WE DO!
Most of our local clubs in the NorCal Section have prerequisites to participate in their match. You should:
Have a USPSA / IDPA / SCSA classification, or
Completion of a 'New Shooter Safety Orientation' or equivalent safety check, or
Other verifiable 'Action shooting' competition experience. Provide your last 3 matches that are logged in Practiscore (usually within the last 18 months).
Action shooting has specific safety practices. Those with law enforcement, military, or other firearms background are required to meet one of the above criteria.
Complete the safety orientation
Contact any of these clubs to schedule the safety orientation. The prices of the course will vary with each club/instructor.
